Supported charities
With many worthy causes available, we struggled to decide who we wanted to raise money for. We liked the idea of slightly smaller charities which did not have large admin and overhead costs like some huge organisations, meaning that more money raised goes directly to where it is needed most. In addition, neither of our charities receive government funding, making donations all the more precious. With both of us having had first hand experience of the hugely successful work of Link Ethiopia and the effects of Alzheimer’s we feel very strongly about the work of both charities.
Link Ethiopia
Link Ethiopia support education in Ethiopia and try to increase cultural awareness between young people in Ethiopia and the UK. Work involves developing school links between English and Ethiopian schools, gap-year teaching experiences and resourcing projects, which to date includes providing clean running water in schools, hygienic toilets, newly built classrooms, the training of teachers in computer skills and library management in larger schools. Well known to the majority of residents of Gondar in Northern Ethiopia, this really is a truly special charity run by very dedicated and intelligent people and we are delighted to be able to help.

Alzheimer’s Research Trust
Alzheimer’s Research Trust is the UK’s leading research charity for dementia. Both of us have personal experience of this devastating condition and are determined to be able to help the fight against it. Alzheimer’s Research Trust provides funding to the most innovative and promising UK research in any area of dementia, to the most talented scientists in top research environments. All grants awarded must pass a rigorous examination process, with only the very best receiving funding – three out of four applications have to be rejected. We are optimistic that cures can be found and look forward to helping Alzheimer’s Research Trust achieve that aim.

We wish to make it clear that all money donated will go directly to these charities, it is not in any way shape or form funding our trip.
